Topic Pages

Topic pages contain links and reading that should be done BEFORE coming to class on the night the topic will be discussed.  These pages contain readings and links that are to be examined prior to the discussion on the topic, and are in addition to those readings mentioned on the course calendar.  Often, we will spend class time dealing with issues addressed in these readings, so students are responsible for having examined them in advance of the class meeting.

WebCT

All students will need access to WebCT, so if you do not have an account, you will need to get your account information (logon ID and password).  You can obtain your username and password by clicking here.  This course will automatically show up on your list when you log in.  WebCT is available from anywhere on the Internet.

Elluminate

All of our class sessions will be conducted in Elluminate, a commercial web conferencing package which is available for use at Eastern Illinois University.  You will be given instructions for accessing our virtual classroom in Elluminate.  You are expected to attend ALL class sessions via Elluminate.

Term Project

Each student will be assigned a company for a case study.  These assignments will be made early in the semester to allow you to begin to formulate plans and start your research.  Each student will write a case study on a company that uses electronic commerce.  The additional specifics of the assignment will be available on the Project page.

Using Elluminate Live

You can access the Elluminate Live room by using this link.  When the login page appears, enter your first name and last name in the blank and click on login.

Once you have logged in, you will probably need to give permission for an application to be downloaded.  It is safe to do so.  That application is the interface for Elluminate.

Elluminate works better with a microphone, but it is not mandatory, as you can use the text chat to interact.  However, since we are using Elluminate as our normal class venue, you are REQUIRED to have a microphone working on your computer.  Web cams can also be used, but they are optional for our class.  Regarding the microphone, you will notice a vu meter at the bottom left corner of the display.  When you have the microphone and are speaking, you should see activity in the meter, indicating that your microphone is working.  This should be tested in advance of joing your first real session.  The room is available 24x7 for testing.
