MIS 4700 - Issue #5

The Future of the Internet

The final issue we will deal with is the future of the Internet.  You should be prepared to thoroughly engage in a discussion of all aspects of this issue on the day indicated in the course calendar.  Prior to that time, you need to research the issue extensively and develop a paper of approximately 1000 words on the issue, including references, web links, and anything else you care to include that adds dimension to the discussion of the issue.

Note:  For this issue, being present (with your clicker) for the discussion is worth 20 of the possible 100 points.  The other 80 points will be from the paper.  This means that if you do not attend the discussion, you will have a maximum of 80 points possible for this issue.

To start learning about this issue, you may want to read the Summary of Findings in the Pew report The Future of the Internet II.  Then explore other sources and present your own ideas in your paper.

You will turn in your paper by submitting it to TurnItIn under the heading "Issue #5."  Be sure to bring a copy of the paper to refer to during the discussion, as you will have already turned the paper in when we begin the discussion.

There is no set organizational format for this paper.  Be as creative as you would like, but be sure to include plenty of substance, as that is what your grade will be based upon.  Papers should be typed and printed (no hand-written papers will be accepted) and should be thoroughly proofread before submitting.

Note:  When using Internet sources, do not cite unverifiable sources such as Wikipedia.  While that site is a great place to start, get a feel for the topic, etc., it is not a site that should be cited in a formal paper of any kind, since it is not considered authoritative.
