BUS 3500 - Issue #2

Mobile Computing

This issue revolves around the integration of mobile devices (smartphones, netbooks, and other portable data-ready devices) into the business computing environment.

You should thoroughly research the topic of mobile computing with regard to its use in the business environment.  Your treatment should include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • What is mobile computing?
  • How is increased mobile computing use impacting business?
  • What are security issues raised for a business allowing mobile computing in its network access mix?
  • How might mobile computing be leveraged by a business for competitive advantage?

You should write a paper (approximately 1000-1500 words) that addresses the issue in general.  Come to class prepared to discuss the issue.

Note:  For this issue, being present (with your clicker) for the discussion is worth 20 of the possible 100 points.  The other 80 points will be from the paper.  This means that if you do not attend the discussion, you will have a maximum of 80 points possible for this issue.

You will turn in your paper by submitting it to TurnItIn under the heading "Issue #2."  Be sure to bring a copy of the paper to refer to during the discussion, as you will have already turned the paper in when we begin the discussion.

There is no set organizational format for this paper.  Be as creative as you would like, but be sure to include plenty of substance, as that is what your grade will be based upon.  Papers should be thoroughly proofread before submitting.

The deadline for the submission of this paper is Wednesday, February 24th, at 11:59 a.m.  Turnitin will NOT accept late submissions.

Note:  When using Internet sources, do not cite unverifiable sources such as Wikipedia.  While that site is a great place to start, get a feel for the topic, etc., it is not a site that should be cited in a formal paper of any kind, since it is not considered authoritative.
